"C" Terms
Campus-Based Programs:
Limited federal financial aid that is administered by the school and includes: Federal Perkins loans, Federal Work Study, and Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants.
Capitalization of Interest:
Addition of unpaid interest to the principal of a loan, which increases both the borrower's total debt and, typically, the amount of each monthly payment.
Commitment / Contract Confirmation Deposit (Housing):
When HOUSING notifies a student that there is space for them, the student must submit a completed Contract Confirmation form along with a deposit by a specified date, or they will lose the housing assignment. The confirmation payment for housing contracts for Spring and Summer 2011 terms is $400. The contract confirmation payment will be credited back to the student's account if the resident fulfills the terms of his/her contract.
Consolidation Loan:
A loan that allows the student to combine several federal student loans into one, lowering the monthly payments and simplifying and extending the terms of repayment.
Cost of Education:
The total amount it will cost to attend school–including tuition, books, housing, food, supplies, and limited travel to and from school–usually covering one academic year.
CSS (College Scholarship Service) Profile:
One of two forms which students hoping for Financial Aid must submit. Register for and complete the annual CSS Profile as soon as possible (to apply online, go to http://www.collegeboard.com). On the profile, enter USC's CSS code number: 4852.
