Frequently Asked Questions

I am an RA / TA or have Graduate Assistance. Why are you billing me?

When you register for classes at USC, you are personally agreeing to be held solely responsible for all tuition and fees. (Please select the appropriate "TERM", and refer to a subsection entitled "Obligation For Payment" in the "Tuition and Fees" section of the "Schedule of Classes"). We do not know that you are an RA or TA until your department has entered your award. You are responsible for Topping, Housing, and any other fees not paid for by your academic department.

Graduate assistant awards pay only for tuition (may be full or partial awards) and health fees. You are responsible for paying any tuition not covered by your award plus all other fees by the settlement deadline published in the schedule of classes for each term.

If you have questions regarding your RA / TA status or tuition payment,
please contact the academic department offering you the assistantship.

Online Information and Links for Graduate Assistants:

  • Graduate Assistant Handbook

  • Offer Letters
If you have not received an offer letter for your assistantship, you should contact your faculty member or principal investigator or the designated graduate assistant coordinator in your academic department. If you have received and signed an offer letter, and if you believe you meet all the requirements described in the handbook but your tuition and/or health awards have not been posted to your student account, please fill out our online Graduate Assistant Help Request Form. For other issues regarding your assistantship, please consult the Graduate Assistant handbook (see above).

  • Tuition Refund Insurance is an optional fee that you may choose to have added to your account each term. This protects you if you are unable to fulfill your commitment and your department rescinds all or part of your award. Before you make a decision about Tuition Refund Insurance you may want to talk to your academic unit about their policy on withdrawal for health reasons.
