Improved FedEx Contract

USC Purchasing Services and Mailing & Material Management Services are pleased to announce a revised contract with FedEx through E&I Cooperative*.  Compared to USC's current FedEx contract, the new agreement will result in an additional $400,000 in annual savings to the campus.

Your department will benefit directly from these savings! For example, the base rate** of an 8 oz. FedEx envelope delivered priority overnight by 10:30AM will drop from:

  • $8.75 to $3.55 (Los Angeles to San Francisco)
  • $13.88 to $3.55 (Los Angeles to New York City)

Additionally, priority overnight rates are now lower than second day rates, allowing departments to expedite their shipments at an unprecedented value!

*E&I Cooperative (Educational and Institutional Cooperative Purchasing) is a not-for-profit purchasing organization which harnesses the collective volume of member institutions to negotiate reduced-rate procurement contracts.

**The base rate is exclusive of any surcharges associated with a residential delivery, customs, or fuel.

Transition Information

We have transitioned staff and faculty with current FedEx accounts to the new E&I agreement, and have notified USC's FedEx customers via email.

If a USC FedEx Customer in your department did not receive an email notice, they should go to the following website for step-by-step transitional instructions:
www.usc.edu/purchasing/fedex/transition. Approximately 5% of USC's FedEx accounts were not associated with a name and, therefore, the account holder could not be notified or transitioned.

Note that USC FedEx customers who have been charging FedEx shipments against a USC Purchase Order were transitioned. However, Purchase Order users were notified that use of either a Procurement Card or an Outgoing Mail Requisition through Mailing & Material Management Services is required by January 15, 2009. The cost of processing small dollar, paper invoices against a USC Purchase Order is cost prohibitive for both USC and FedEx.  In order to benefit from these low rates, we must close all FedEx Purchase Orders and use a more efficient payment method.
